Booking a Fishing Charter: What to Bring, What to Expect

First-timer guide — what to wear, what to bring, what's included, tipping etiquette, and how to make the most of a half-day or full-day charter.

If you've never booked a fishing charter before, it can feel like there are a lot of moving pieces. Here's exactly how it works on our end, what to bring, and how to make the most of your day.

Before the trip

  • Call or text (386) 748-1585 to check availability. Give us your target date window, group size, and what you want out of the trip.
  • Put down a $100 non-refundable deposit to lock in your date (see rates & booking rules).
  • We'll confirm the meeting time and location the day before based on weather, tide, and target species.

What to bring

  • Sun protection — hat, polarized sunglasses, sunscreen, UV-rated long-sleeve shirt. The Florida sun is serious.
  • Food and drinks — non-glass. No coolers needed unless you're keeping fish; we have ice on board.
  • Light jacket for winter or early-morning trips.
  • Phone or camera for photos. See our photo tips for the best shots.
  • Cash for the captain's tip if you had a good day (15–20% is customary but never required).

What we provide

Rods, reels, tackle, bait, ice, your Florida saltwater fishing license (covered under the captain's charter license), and photos of your catch.

On the water

We'll spend a couple minutes at the dock going over the plan, safety basics, and rigging. Then we run to our first spot. Most trips we fish 3–5 locations depending on the bite. You can read more about what's biting when in our month-by-month guide.

After the trip

If you kept legal fish, we'll point you to the best cleaning service at the dock (around $1/lb). If you caught a trophy you want mounted, we partner with Gray's Taxidermy for replica mounts — no need to kill the fish. A quick measurement and photo is all it takes.
